Once upon a time...
I've always loved telling stories: stories in words; stories in music; stories in data. I believe that my capacity as a story-teller
When I first came to the United State as a college student, I wasn't sure that I wanted to be a scientist. I wanted to help people, not just play with numbers alone in a lab. I found that the study of water - how it shapes communities, how communities change it - was that defining bridge that I was missing between science and compassion.
Today, I study the intersection of water and the built environment. How does water impact our cities? How do our cities impact our water resources? And how can we ensure that the natural resources we rely on remain resilient and equitably distributed in the face of climate change?
As a scientist, I provide disadvantaged communities the data tools that they need to tell their own stories about our changing climate. As a policy-maker, I help to ensure that they have a voice at the table. And as an artist, I use my writing and music to share the emotions at the heart of my work.
